General Information

The blood-sucking leech has been used for thousands of years in medincine. The U.S government has now approved the use of medical leeches for healing skin grafts or restoring circulation. Doctors using medical leeched believe that blood-letting helps cure a wide range of diseases, from headaches to gout, head to toe.

Leeches are a gift from nature that may help people overcome many health disorders. The secretion of leech saliva contains approximately 100 biologically active substances which have a positive effect on the human body.

These substances are known to reduce blood coagulation (clotting), reduce cholesterol and sugar content in the blood, have antiphlogistic (anti-inflammatory) and anaesthetic effect, dissolve thrombi (blood clots), decrease  blood pressure, improve immune system, diminish oedemas and improve microcirculation.

Leeches are said to improve our physical and mental well being and improve on the quality and comforts of our lives.

Hirudotherapy has been known since the ancient times and still exists today. Hirudo is Latin for leech, hence leech therapy. It has been considered as a necessary remedy and treatment of various diseases. This therapy has been approved by many countries around  the world.

Modern hirudotherapy differs from the ancient method in that today we use leeches specially bred and grown in laboratories, they are in strict quarantine. The ancient method used wild leeches. Today we only use a leech once and dispose of it  adequately, this completely eliminates any chances of infection.
